Agenda and summary of May 19th special election Ballot is distributed at 7:11pm
Call to Order: 7:15pm
Allan Acevedo takes the floor and discusses the Mamas kitchen food drive that we will be host at
our May meeting. Allan suggests that we expand our volunteering events to be outside of just
marriage equality. Allan promotes an earth day festival at Balboa Park from 10am to 5pm on
April 19th .
Members discuss the Day of Decision march the Marriage Equality USA is promoting. As well as
a Fresno events which has a date pending on the date of decision. Matt Brown updates us on
their upcoming events.
Allan then discusses an assembly bill that will be voted on this Tuesday 4.14.2009
Allan instructs all members to compose a letter to assembly member Marty Block (789th district)
asking him to change his abstention from AB 462 to a yes vote during the legislative vote.
Stonewall supports AB462 because it will ensure that State University fees not raised in
2009/10 academic year.
We then discuss the CYD state convention regarding which members will be attending and
ensuring that they have proper admission are properly registered for the event. The convention
is the 24th 25th and 26th of this month in Sacramento.
We move on the discuss CYD elections and endorsing Allisa Ko for president and Jonathan
Goetz for Secretary.
Allan suggests endorsing a slate of candidates to expedite the endorsement process for all
other candidates
Jonathan Goetz motions for a vote to endorse Elisa Ko’s slate of candidates for the CYD state
convention.
Colin Parent seconds the motion
The floor opens
Matt Corales suggests that endorsing each candidate position as he feels endorsing a slate of
candidates makes the endorsement decision seem un thought out and naïve.
Point of Order: Original motion requires Stonewall Young Democrats of San Diego’s three
official representatives (Allan Acevedo, Carlos Marques & Jonathan Goetz) to vote for all current
and future additions to Alissa Ko’s slate, including the board of California College Democrats.
Jonathan Goetz suggests a friendly amendment to the motion to insert the following names:
Vice-President of Membership: Jen Longley
Political Director: Julie Lind
National Committeewoman: Natalie Rojas
National Committeeman: Owen Stephens
Communications Director: Stephanie Chan
(President: Alissa Ko, Secretary: Jonathan Goetz, Regional Director: Allan Acevedo, already
endorsed)
No amendment motioned.
Motion Passes
Allan reclaims the floor to discuss the endorsement for CYD’s queer caucus.
Matt Corales speaks to members about why he is running for a queer caucus co chair position.
Carlos Marquez takes the floor to commend Matt on his commitment to community involvement
and presence on several different boards.
Jonathan Goetz speaks on behalf of John Vigna, who is also running for a queer caucus co
chair.
Colin Parent motions to vote to endorse Matt Corales for the CYD queer caucus candidacy.
Jennifer Livingood seconds the motion.
Motion passes, SYD endorses Matt Corales for CYD queer caucus.
Carlos Marquez (Labor board) takes the floor and discusses the special election on May 19th.
He distributes a literature (title: California Budget Project) packet for members to follow his
presentation.
Member Seth Klonsky requests to Carlos that he provide more contextual material about why we
should vote the way he is presenting in spite of his agreement with the presentation.
Matt Corales motions to take a position for all propositions for the May 19th special election.

Jonathan Goetz announces Francine Busby wanted to ensure that Stonewall Young Democrats
of San Diego knows that she is running for Congress! (CA-50)
Matt Brown announces upcoming volunteering opportunities with Marriage Equality USA.
Carlos Marquez promotes his upcoming Guerilla Queer Bar event.
Allan Acevedo announces that he needs to contact SDSU alumni so that he can canvass them
